Can’t find much on a traditional history of buddy Tattoos. Ofc, there’s the tradition of heart Tattoos, espec with ‘Mum’ or a sweethearts name. But those don’t seem traditionally reciprocal, and more a reminder for the wearer of the tattoo than a protective impulse towards the named person. The latter is what I’m thinking of.
